I had the honor and pleasure of getting to know Juan in the continuing education course "AI Manager". It's hard for me to describe Juan adequately. The statement: "Juan is very good at what he does" doesn't do him justice. Although "very good" already means the top in the grading scheme, it doesn't fully represent Juan as a whole. The word "brilliant" might be an enhancement, but in my opinion, it's a bit "overblown". Juan is the kind of person who is versatilely talented, that's for sure. At all times during the course, he was able to immediately understand what was taught or to acquire the necessary knowledge in a very short time. That alone could be called "outstanding", but still doesn't reflect the whole picture. Juan managed to always think one step ahead and to incorporate improvements in his projects. Now one could say that he just always goes an "extra mile", but that would be too one-dimensional.
I have thought for a long time about how I can formulate a suitable description. Finally, I have found the solution. Not too long ago, I read about Angela Duckworth and her research on "GRIT". There is no clear German translation for "Grit", but it can be summarized that people with "Grit" combine certain characteristics:
- Interest: Juan is versatilely interested and passionate about many topics
- Practice: Juan is very disciplined and stays on it until he has the solution he wants
- Purposefulness: Juan pursues a purpose. He uses his talents to do meaningful things and leave a positive impact on the world
- Confidence: Juan believes in himself and the topics he pursues
